A handmade tattered boat recovered from the sea on a stormy winter day turns slowly (once every seventy seconds) within its house. Portunus is named after the Roman god associated with ports and harbors and the gateway to the sea.

Exhibited in the Napa River Walk in downtown Napa for sixteen months. Skiff commemorates the rich and diverse history of the Napa River front. The overall form evokes boats and river travel; the three open ‘pods’ represent the three American Indian tribes who once populated the area.
